Japanese Curls Tutorial

1:47 PM

Hey everyone! To accompany the "Dolly Eyes" tutorial, I also made a hair tutorial since I've had so many requests on how I curl my hair. It's really a quite simple process and it doesn't take very long once you get the hang of it.

The look is similar to what you would see in a lot of Japanese fashion magazines like Vivi. This leans a little more toward the "princessy" or "dolly" look, but you can do a more casual, beachy curl with the same process by shaking out the curls a little more at the end and adding texturizer.

It's important to note that this works best with a good haircut. This style really shines on longer hair with many layers, but even if you have shorter hair you can use the same process, I just recommend using a slightly skinnier curling iron. My iron is from jilbere de paris and it is 1 1/4".

Here are some photos showing off this hairstyle.

Happy hair!

Thought this was hilarious. Sad kitty face. HOW did I miss this photo the first time? :3

By the way, I ordered these amazing babies yesterday. I am certain I will pee my pants in excitement when I receive them. Michael Kors "Niki" Gladiator Sandal. 5-and-a-quarter inches of hot.

I'm gonna go rest now. I had a crazy day today (anyone ever have to get their blood drawn 9 times in one day? it SUCKS) but I hope you guys enjoy. I'd love to see pics of your results too!

  1. Those shoes are hot! Were they discounted? Where did you get them from?

  2. Rachel: I got the shoes from Nordstrom. Sadly, they were full price but were so popular they sold out on the website in a couple days! But the girl at the store found them in the system and ordered them for me. In my hard-to-find size, I gotta grab what I can find quickly! ^^

And yes, I have had blood drawn more than 9 times in one day (I've had a 24 hour cortisol curve...)

  11. I am really loving your video tutorials!<3 It's nice to hear you talk because it adds life to the whole process, but of course, the pictures are still love, too! xD Sigh...I need to get a larger barrel curling iron...I don't even know what size mine is...I think only 1"? It doesn't give me big enough curls...I like sexy, voluminous waves (like yours!) not tiny ringlets straight out of the 18th century x_X hehe :) keep it up!<3

ps. oh yes, what heat protectant do you use?

  14. hey try posting some make up eyelid tutorials tat dont require the eyelid tapes... the eyelid tapes/glue dont work on me... and it looks totally different - double lid and single lid makeup, even if it done the same way :(

    thanks in advance!

  15. Hi Jen,

how come when I put on my eyetape after a couple hours it feels like the glue has smeared. There is a liquidy stuff on it and so I am unable to use any make up when using the eyetape. I mean i could but it would smear and dissapear after a couple hours (only on the tape area). Does yours do tha same too? :S I wonder how you'd deal with it then.

  16. Em: Sure, I've been meaning to do a bridal post and just haven't gotten around to it. I still need to post some of my wedding pics from almost a year ago! I'll start working on that soon!

Anonymous: Not sure what size it goes up to, but it went down to a size 4 which is what I buy.

Caroline :]: I use either Biosilk silk therapy or some silk spray protectant that I randomly picked up at Sally Beauty. The spray is nice and convenient for using before you curl or flat iron, but biosilk is nice for applying to wet hair out of the shower since it's a serum.

Jane: I think I will do a video tutorial with half and half. One side with tape, one side without. Would that help out?

KayKay: I always wipe my eyelids with a cotton ball before I apply tape since you could have existing oil on your lids. After the tape, I apply Urban Decay Primer Potion (eyeshadow primer) on my lid and especially over the tape. This helps the lid not to get oily and make it "smear". If I do both these steps, it isn't a problem for me. If it is still a problem for you, then maybe you should switch to a different kind of tape (eyecharm holds well for me), or maybe tapes aren't for you.
